I recently sent £5 to the DVLC to trace the original owner of my 92 TVR in the hope that I could find details and documentation of early missing service history re documentation, taking into account all the official main dealer stamps are in the service book, I contacted the dealers and they were unable to help me with any copy documents.
I received the detailed info from the DVLC which was well worth a fiver, it included contact telephone numbers and despite the fact the original owner had moved, I managed to track them down and make contact with them.
We had a nice, very informative chat, bearing in mind they owned the car for 7 years from 1992, and he said he would see if he still had any of the documents.
This morning in the post I received all the missing original documentation from when the car was new, including old tax discs & MOT's.
For everyone's info a very usefull exercise for enthusiast's tracing vehicle history.

When I bought my '92 4.3 Griffith I traced the previous owners for a chat and got great background info - but one owner proved hard to contact - finally I was given his mobile number - after several failed attempts I got hold of him on a Sunday afternoon - after chatting for nearly an hour he informed me he was currently in Hong Kong - Oopps!

and you managed to convince him never to buy a Tuscan aswellOh dear I forgot - maybe I should phone him back - seriously I absolutely adore the Tuscan - hope to have one in future (classic status) when all problematic ones have either been scrapped or had properly developed engines fitted.

Yes I must admit I'd thought it was strange. All the DVLC asked me to do was send a covering letter asking for me to confirm the reason I want the information. Maybe they contact the previous owners for permission, I did'nt think to ask.
