So then what game after all the build-up, hype, development teasers and magazine hands on tests was your biggest let down?

For me it has to be Grand Theft Auto 4, after playing GTA since the first top down outing on PC and loving very version since, I bought a 360 specifically for GTA4 and I was utterly crushed, I can't quite pin point exactly what is wrong but it was just so utterly devoid of player enjoyment, atmospere and anticipation.

Even as an unemployed bum with nothing better to do I [i[still[/i] felt like I was wasting my time playing it.

A technically brilliant but terribly executed game.

Close second? Perfect Dark.

After the genius of Goldeneye, the N64 magazine build-up, even forking out for the 'Ram Pack' it turned out to be unplayable dross.

Third? Gran Tourismo 4

fk me I actually fell asleep during one race it is so dull, yawn yawn and yawn again.

I dont know why COD WaW gets so much abuse... I think its very good.. It just has to live in the shadow of COD4 Modern warfare - thats its problem.

HALO 3 on the other hand got so much hype then turned out to be on the wrong side of appalling.

Agree GTA4 just became tedious...though it did retain the challenge of completeing missions through ludicrous stunts - Often towards the end of a long and difficult mission I'd give in to temptation and try something needlessly daft that got me killed/arrested.
And no I dont want to take you bowling for the millionth time. I'm playing GTA not the f'in Sims!

Perfect Dark wasn't that bad, nothing on Goldeneye though. Perfect Dark Zero however made me want to die.

Farcry 2 was crap - the original was great

The Forza 3 demo - a mate showed me how to switch the drift score on, almost made me vomit. Not to mention all the other crap bits.

gran turismo 4 for me aswell.

bought a ps2 especially for this game only to find other than nice graphics the rest of the game hadnt moved on.... Still the same rubbish tyre screeching sound, rubbish engine sounds and the physics were awful. every car just seemed to understeer with the exception of the nsx-r. I had a tvr which i had tuned and with all the aids of bang the throttle down mid corner and it would just understeer..... YAWN

Farcry 2 - absolute pile of repetitive ste.

WAW was a real let down, due to the hype. Not a bad game per se.

I agree with North West Tom, GTA4 was brilliant and it cost me many hours of my life, hours that seem like minutes when Im messing about jumping cars and slaying pedestrians on that game. But that is my opinion and unlike you I am not trying to force my view on others.

Most disapointing game for me was Mass Effect. Wanted it as soon as I heard about its development. Bought it, started to play and 10 minutes later it was back on the shelf collecting dust, which is where it stayed until I traded it in.

Every motorcycle racing game ever made.

The only thing more pathetic than the games themselves would be me for buying them with the deluded hope that the next one would somehow be better than the previous garbage.

rolleyes If you don't like the drift mode, don't use it.

Race pro was awful though. Loads of hype for that crap.

Test Drive Unlimited!!!! (pc version)

It had the potential to be an utterly amazing game, but was let down by poor online implementation(if you could get on line at all), unrealistic gearing/engine sounds, poorly constructed road surfaces, poor NPC ai, etc etc.

Assassins Creed- Looks great, great idea, just very repetitive. Go to new town, find so and so. Kill so and so. Exit town.

I quite like the Halo games - 2 seemed to have the play balance all wrong on Legendary, but I've played them all and am currently working through ODST. Having said that, I've only ever played them Split Screen Co-op - never touched the single player on any of them.

Most disappointing for me was Splinter Cell: Double Agent - a step backward from Chaos Theory
