Drove past a scamera van earlier, sneakily sited in the bushes about 100 yards past where a 40 limit goes down to 30. I saw it early and made sure I was doing an indicated 30mph, but was just wondering what the range is. Anybody know?

At least 600metres. The GT4 gets a rear jammer soon.

I tended to operate a Laser from within the van at a minimum range of 120 metres and a maximum comfortable range of 600 metres. Anything else and the images is appalling, particulary on motorways/dual carriageways.
The Gatso sits out the front of the van and is only triggered when you have driven through the beam at speed.
All systems work at night and in most weathers, I personally never hid my van, you could usually find me with a Traffic car sat behind me with rear reds flashing.....and still catching people with no forward vision.........

There's always one of these on the M6 northbound towards the Lake District. Often wondered how well this one performed. It would seem you come around a bend before seeing the van - nice spot to catch people out.

Does that imply infra-red cameras for laser+video combinations? I've often wondered if the laser+video stuff can be worked at night (obviously radar+GATSO with flash will work)....?

A local retired cop told me his son was lasered at 77 mph on a virtually deserted A55 dual in N Wales....at 2 o'clock in the morning.

This was a parked patrol car, not Arrive Alive, who did not exist then
