Looking for Grantura, Vixen as daily drive what do you think
Discussion
What do you guys think about either of the above as a daily drive, I would loook to spend a bit ton the interior, nice seats, sound proofing etc, make it reliable with a good engine, not sure if either would be that practical, whats your opinion.
I also need to find either of the cars so if anyone knows of a good one that has been restored or would make a good starting point please get in touch.
Thanks
Stephen

How many miles are you willing to do in a day?
On the ride side, they can be a little harsh for everyday driving. The smell of fumes/ petrol/oil vapour etc. Some people do it, but I know I wouldn't do it every day. Some people even venture to europe for track days etc, but then again, it's probably a one off for the year?

I think this is a duplicate of this thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&a...
lol
I think you'd have to be mad to use one everyday, but the right kind of mad just the right side of sane!!!
I say go for it. Mechanically its simple and easy to work on/fix.
As with all classics it'll just be a bit more fickle and want a bit more TLC.
Also buying a solid good condition one would be better than buying a shed and make sure you have some money set aside just encase you need it.

Thanks for the replies so far, I will probably do a round 100 miles a wk plus what ever i do at the wkend for play etc.
Have a chance of getting an original unmolested Grantura mk 3 with history all original with just 5k documented miles from new, £25k, needs brakes sorting etc but exterior and interior looks to be excellent.
There is also a Tuscan on piston heads for £12.5k green with white stripe what do you guys think about my options? is there a big difference between the Tuscan and Grantura?

Having run a Taimar as a daily driver in the early 90s (and owned some older TVRs) I'd say that it is very possible to use it as a daily driver but look into the following items as they will piss you off very quickly otherwise (especially in the winter):-
1) Make sure all the door seals (and windows) are water and windproof
2) The Heater and Screen demisting (inc rear screen) are a joke, some sort of modern upgrade would help here
3) Headlights are woeful, but upgrade wiring and put modern halogen units in.
Other than that the small door sizes and having to secure luggage on the rear shelf to stop it moving around are just miinor inconveniences
Go for it and keep posting here so we can see how you get on.

I agree with Davidy, I ran a Tuscan V6 as my only car for a while in the late 80's and the only things that were a pain were arriving everywhere with a wet leg when it rained (it leaked through the throttle cable entry point), coming over with panic every time I came to a speed hump (about 3" ground clearance) and only doing 22mpg (V6 running on 4 star).
Other than that they are simple cars, (mostly) easy to fix and, with help from the likes of Adrian V and Steve R etc., parts aren't as much of a problem as you may think.
