Anyone read the books recently?
It's been a while since I read them and my 9 year old has expressed an interest in reading them.
Reading ability aside there's nothing "wrong" in them that would be unsuitable for a kiddlywink is there? I dont recall heaps of swearing or explicit sexiness!

I seem to remember reading them at not much older: Maybe 10 or 11. If there is anything unsuitable I don't remember it so I doubt there's much if any at all.It's been a while since I read them and my 9 year old has expressed an interest in reading them.

I read the first book at the same sort of age, then picked the others up over time. There's a few more 'mature' themes in "So Long...", most particularly the airborne sex scene, but even that is written in a "PG13" sort of manner.
One last point - Mostly Harmless is a lot darker a book, you could almost feel the resentment coming out of the pen in parts. And more violent, also, so probably leave that one for a few years...
Ideal at that age, but I guess it depends on your own point of view. There are one or two 'sexy' references, and a couple of (deliberately) 'gratuitous' uses of swear words, but at 9 I am sure he will have heard worse.
Those books changed my life, utterly, utterly brilliant on so many levels. DNA noticed 'PC gone mad' before the phrase was invented. If you can read those books and not laugh out loud then you are made of stone. Your lad will love them.

I don't remember lots of swearing, I think Arthur and Fenchurch 'get it on' but I don't remember anything descriptive or anything.
Good on them for trying, but I'm not convinced a nine year old would understand a lot of the references. Have they tried Pratchett yet? Might be worth starting with something like that instead?

He's reading the first chapter now, chuckling away to himself!
(before anyone asks, he's being home, or more accurately "my office" schooled for the next 5 weeks while the LEA get their arses in gear and process the appeal for choice of school)

By the time I got to college every cocktail bar in the land had a Pangalactic Gargleblaster on the menu.Not unlike an "Optical Illusion" IIRC

Reckon it'll be great for a kid to read, incredibly entertaining novels.
e from Eroticon 5?e of Eroticon 6.As for reading them young, I think I started them when I was 8-9. It may warp his sense of humour forever though. I think these books, combined with copious amounts of Viz magazine (stolen from my Uncle) have given me a sense of humour I share with about 3 other people in the World.
