Hi Chaps,

I have no idea about watches, but I am getting fed up with replacing cheap watches every couple of years, so I want to purchase something a bit more substantial.

Nothing big and gold! Something simple that tells the time, that I can wear everyday and doesn't say 'Chav' or 'I am the Big Man'. Also, a small face as I have slim wrists. I am not into wearing big brand labels etc.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated

How about one of these?

I got one about a year ago and I'm very happy with it. Quality and time keeping are excellent. Thoroughly recommended.

Its a Stowa Flieger btw.

Forgot to say, I've got skinny girly wrists too and its not too big at all.

Lots of choice for the budget and a few of what I would have suggested have already been mentioned.

So, a couple more to think about - Speedbird III from TimeFactors would be a good choice IMHO and also Seiko's especially the 5's as they tend to be a little bit smaller, normally around 38mm (same as a Sinn 556 and Speedbird III) and can have a few of them for the money you have to spend.

Let us know how you get on, and look forward to seeing some pictures

Some good suggestions above there but mine would be to go for an Oris. Goldsmiths have a number of models in their sales which should be in budget:

Junghans Max Bill Automatic.

Might have to shop around to get it new under the £500 (although a doddle if you buy second hand). The manual wind, which looks much the same, should be easily doable new for your budget.

Thank you so much, Gents.

I must say, I do love the look of the Junghans Max Bill Automatic - beautifully minimalistic.

Keep them coming - you really are giving me food for thought...

The Max Bill is indeed cool, also have a look at the Stowa Antea Kleine Sekunde for a similar bauhouse stylee.
