American style fridge freezers
Discussion
I think the ones to go for are the Maytag trio. Same company, different branding.
Admiral
Maytag
Amana
We have had an Amana side by side stainless jobbie with ice dispenser and crusher on the door, for 5-6 years now.
Touch wood, its been faultless.
You will pay a premium for the American branded ones, but it does seem you get what you pay for.
(n.b. Get the filters from the US direct i paid £15 each as opposed to £65 which was quoted by Maytag UK).

Yep, we have a Maytag. They're supposed to be good for 30 years but if the compressor goes it's a £700 job, which is probably about what a Samsung costs in total.
Ours (it's stainless steel) was £1800 9 years ago and that was *very* cheap - they were £2500 in most places.

Where from, please? We buy ours from FridgeFilters.com when we're in the US but I don't remember them being that cheap.Edited by Deva Link on Thursday 1st October 13:32

I already have a source in the US (fridgefilters.com) so I can get them for about $30 each if I buy 3 or 4 at a time, and shipping is free within the US. They'll deliver to a hotel, so I tie that in with US trips and it works great.
However I don't have a reasonably priced (including delivery) source in the UK.

Last year paid $150 x6 & $20 shipping international (took about a week)
With the US$/GB£ rate 1.56 today (and px now $199 x6) still looks like £23 ish instead of £65.
Check back every month or so. They have deals on once or twice a year.

Ah, thanks. Same source and price as I use. You should be paying duty on top, although me buying them in the US means paying sales tax.Last year paid $150 x6 & $20 shipping international (took about a week)

Actually they've got mine, UKF7003, for only £25ea. Still a dearer than $34 in the US, but that's the cheapest I've ever seen in the UK.LeoSayer said:
I bought one of these made by Samsung 7 years ago and it has packed in and seems irrepairable. I need to replace it, but it won't be another Samdung.
Any recommendations? Or are they all trouble?
last week I had an LG GWL227HBQA installed and it is nice looking bit of kit with plenty of space inside. can't tell you how good it is yet but at £900 it seemed a good deal. I trawled around for quite a while before settling on the LGAny recommendations? Or are they all trouble?
