Can anyone provide any tips or pointers that they have picked up along the way when it comes to optimising your site for a good ranking on the search engines, namely google.

Listed on the open directory
Created reciprical links with similar sites

Simple things like ensuring the key word is in the title of the page, it's the first major title within the text and if possible a relavent page name.
