I purchased a couple of these things the other day.

I am making a batch of chilli (about 6 portions worth) this evening. Now hearing about how lethal these things are, I cut a teeeeny weeeny bit off one, and ate it.

Nothing. Not even a slight tingle - in fact bird eye chillis are far far hotter.

So assuming I must have got a "heat free" section of the chilli when testing it, how much of a dorset naga should I put in a chilli to make it hot, but not inedible. I was thinking half?

For 6 portions worth I'd lob a whole one in.

And I will send you some Bhut Jolokias that I have grown. I bet you purchased your chillis from one of the larger supermarket chains?

I posted about this recently

Not impressed with Dorset Nagas, seem to be a totally unnecessary pepper, just strong with no other redeeming features. You can get all the heat you will ever need and much, much more with other more flavoursome chillis, the winners in the pissing up the wall contest if that's your thing.

I agree that they do not have the same taste as other chillis, such as a Habanero (orange) which in my view gives of a very strong smell of peach when cut into and an almost citrus flavour when consumed. They do have some flavour though, it is a fruit after all.

Pferdestarke - If I am honest my Bhuts and my mustard Habs still have not ripened, when they are ripe you are welcome to have some.

Well they are. So you're wrong. If something is the hottest chilli in the world, can't quite work out how is isn't 'hot'..?

So, have you actually tasted any? We've had two lots - the first I'd class as 'warm' and the second were 'hot' but not as hot (or as nicely flavoured which is a point that's been made before) as the scotch bonnets I normally use.

I don't give a toss what the books/packets say they are 'meant' to be - the ones I've had were not actually that hot!

My honest opinion, and I am not a massive chillihead

I put one whole one, finely chopped, in to a chilli consisting off 500g mince and all the rest.

It was ok. Quite hot but nothing that bad. I have had hotter stuff by chucking in a couple of birdeye chillis in fairness.

I did like the warning on the packaging "WARNING - MAJOR IRRITANT, USE GLOVES" rolleyes

Will try it when I make my noodles this weekend with the other one - suppose I could have got a dud hehe

Wrong. If you eat a genuine one they are most definitely that hot!

The problem is that a lot of peppers look the same...

If you can eat a Naga without flinching my hat is off to you!

No it isn't.

That guy is well known in the chilli fraternity. No one can fake sweat like that.

I'll be honest here.

I didn't watch it, but assumed it was the one where the guy eats it then looks like a zombie at the end biggrin
