As I understand it some tyre brands and models differ in size from others for any given tyres, some being bigger and some smaller even though they have the same quoted size. Which tyre manufacturer/models are bigger/smaller for any given size?

Anyone?

It also depends on the size of the rim - a tyre will be a different size on a narrow rims compared to a wide one.

Goodyear Eagle F1-A is much, much wider than a Bridgestone Turanza ER300 - both were 225-45-17, but the Goodyear stuck out a good 6mm wider each side of the rim compared to the Bridgestone.

Isn't much of that down to the sidewall stiffness, dictated by the load index for the tyre?

Thanks HellDiver, that is the kind of info I'm after. Anyone know how other brands compare, all other things being equal.

From what I know Bridgestone is originally less wide also than Dunlop, this may give feeling that it feels softer. However any of them will go along to suit width of the rims.
