Fng still on the look out for "the one"...just had a close call. All seemed well, then a stroke of bad luck with my transit connect led to a chat with a man who knows about these things(tvr). First thing he says is "done an hpi check ?" .... a penny drop look in return gives me away....he owns a garage, does the check on the spot. Result: write off in the early nineties!! expensive car (back then) + write off = more than a scuff !!! learning all the time.... "FNG" indeed. N.B. The blaine fella with the re-build chassis off etc etc.....WOW

Transit Connect eh? Same here. I was impressed with my first one (an '03 230LX) but not so overjoyed with the new one ('09 230LX with aircon and 110PS). Build quality down, handling worse, throttle response crap, engine sounds like a chainsaw. Still, better value than most of the opposition.

Good luck with the Wedge search anyway; I suspect a larger percentage of cars than most owners think have been involved in a bodyshell:scenery interface at some stage so as long as the repairs are well-executed (follow Johntom's saga as his front-ended 400SE gets rebuilt) and the price is right then crack on. Wedges generally end up on classic insurance policies and certain specialist companies know what they're letting themselves in for when they take the risk on.
I'm 45 and my '87 390SE costs me under £120 a year fully comp. but limited to 5000 miles... I think most owners are similar (in price if not age. Or looks ).
