Why is it that when people are walking along the street and they get tooted at by someone that knows them they look so smug . hehe
They always acknowlege them with an over enthuasiatic wave or, in the case of blokes, a victory fist pump in the air that they will still hold in the air way after the car has long gone!

Its almost like you get street brownie points when this happens.

Just saw a bloke do it and afterwards he walked with a certain swagger of confidence while exlaiming to his friends "Yer" sniff "Thats Billy three toes he is well 'ard" biglaugh

I know I like it when I get tooted, usually its followed up with shout "Get out the road you BMX muppet" though.

Try doing it while shouted out of the window 'Hey how you doing, long time no see, must catch up soon' whilst waving wildly! they always wave back and answer you!

Oh, I like waving at cars who I think might contain my friends. Usually I am wrong, but quite often get a wave back before the other driver tries to work out who the hell I am...

The reason why they look smug, is the pedestrian is going "look at how popular I am" (Not popular enough to get invited to wherever the driver is going and be given a lift mind....).

Good one I saw was when we were travelling in a mates car, I was in the back.

Passenger in the front spots a girl and exclaims "that's stacy, give her a beep"

So the driver beeps madly as we all duck down. Cue a scowl and "the bird" from the girl aimed at this mad bloke beeping at her.

Because when people actually go out of their way to say "hello" by using the horn or pulling over to say something, it's the driver implying that they value knowing the pedestrian to an immense extent.

If it happened to me, I'd just give a thumb up which is my response to almost anything like that.

I love beeping at random people I've never met and giving them a wave as I drive past. Of course they do the decent thing and wave back because they must know you. The best place is outside of these Tesco Metro type shops, the amount of people who'll drop their shopping to wave back is incredible!

Sorry

I thought I was the only one that liked beeping at old people. It's not just the comedy value though, I like to think they'll go home and tell the cat that so-and-sos boy, who they haven't seen in about 20 years drove by and said hello... he's such a nice guy.

I used to play a game where I beeped and waved at random people. It was amazing the amount of people that not only acknowledged me but keenly waved back like they had known me for years. Great game.

I always wondered who were the incontinent soap-dodging, we-didn't-fight-the-Germans-to-get-beeped-at, kiddy fiddling, inappropriate-boner-in-public, stinking of piss, toothless, halitosis breath, trousers up to their nipples, grave-dodging miserable old bds are that were stupid enough to wave back thinking you were their long-lost son who disowned them after that incident with the Asian couple.

Now I know.

Once in my old Hillman Minx, the horn started going off randomly as I was driving, loads of people were waving back at me

lifted the bonnet, disconnected the horn, but it still kept going! spoooky Christine car is haunted! there were actually two horns, one of each side, for some reason. battery earth strap was hanging down touching it
