Floppy sun visors

My sun visors have gone way past the floppy stage, the drivers one was held up by numerous bits of velcro when I got the car.
I have seen photos of other cars with some sort of dome attachment off the targa clips that then domes or attaches to the visor to keep it in place?
I have removed the drivers one and pulled out each of the mounting rods to repaint or retape to try and tighten them---but this does not really work.
Is there a known replacement...or what has everyone else done to solve floppy sun visors??

Mine are held up with velcro, they were when i got the car, i thought this was standard fitment.

Mine have got lovely little fastener things to hold them up. Unfortunately they were there when I bought the car. No real help there I know, but there are things you can get

Unscrew one of the "hinges" and wrap some electrical tape around the pin and refit.
Worked for me.

Should be plenty of sun down in NZ from now on so I don't really understand why you don't want them down!

Managed to cure mine with a litle tape around the pivot rod, next plan if this hadn't worked was to "deform" the rods a little, maybe using hammer and centre punch or blunt chisel, creating some high spots ?

Contemplated the Velcro idea but didn't really want any external additions !


OR . . . remove completely and get a pair of sunglasses

I took mine off completely. Always drive with the top down as the sun often shines over the top of the windscreen frame, so I take sunglasses...Sorted

Took mine off, crushed the tubes EVER so slightly in the vice until they where a tight fit, put them back - sorted.

I took mine apart and pushed in a small cable tie and snipped the end off when I replaced the pivot.

take em off and wear a cap ?

Like the others, I deformed the rods to tighten the action... its important that they stay up and out of the way up here as we never seem to need them down

Tape round the shaft as per Phillpot and Elfit worked well for me and is still working after a few years.

Thanks for the feedback...tape did not work, so I took the industrial approach and hammered the central rod in a couple of places, then put the 2 side rods back in and it is more than stiff--thanks, now back to polishing the wheels that are off for a refurb.
