What a thoroughly pleasant experience it was too, from being greeted by chef Claude as we waited for our dining companions, to the fantastic (and damn impressive) knowledge of the gent who served us (named Azedine), see here for info http://www.hibiscusrestaurant.co.uk/

We had the £85 tasting menu (dishes chosen by the chef) which equated to 7 courses overall, which featured everything from some beautiful trout, through to some cinnamon ravioli with a host of other delights in-between. We finished with a sweet butterscotch tasting dessert that the waiter wouldn't tell us anything about until after we had eaten it. Turned out that it was made from mushrooms and white chocolate....delicious.

Highlight for me was the foie gras course. This was my first taste of it and hopefully it won't be my last as it was absolutely superb in taste and texture. This was closely followed by another highlight that was the most beautiful Italian dessert wine I have ever tasted. Scrumptious.

Recommended.

It looks excellent. I'd heard it was worth the outlay for the Tasting Menu. I want to go to Restaurant Sat bains With Rooms near Nottingham. Worth a look if you are in The Midlands.

Shaun closing The Merchant House was bad.

But Ludlow really is a poorer gastronomic town after Monsieur Bosi moved Hibiscus "dahn sarf". You lucky people.

I can heartily recommend Sat's (and to be fair he recommeded hibiscus to me, but I've not been yet). I'd recommend doing the 'chef's table' room next to the kitchen and get served by the chefs and get bird's eye view of the chefs working. I think this comes in @ £95 per head for the food, which is probably 8-10 courses IIRC.

Have always had brilliant meals there and hoping to get a few visits in before christmas!

Someone invited me to join a 'ban foie gras' group on Facebook the other day. I defriended them - idiots.

Foie gras truly is stunning. It's especially good when enjoyed with a bottle of Sauternes.

Take a trip to the Dorgogne, the home of frois gras. It's virtually complusory to eat it with just about everything, including breakfast. Don't go unless you like eating lots of duck and goose though ! We spent 7 days there in August and ate frois gras every day - a great place to do the Atkins diet.
