Does it use coolant? Is it excessively thirsty? Could be too much fuel, head gasket...

white smoke is injector timing, misfiring, duff injector, foobarred fuel pump. Has someone recently filled up with petrol??

seen transits having a duff injector causing this fault, carry out a leak off test, all you need is a little bit of piping per cly and some plastic water cups

Sounds like your dual mass flywheel is going to expire, very common on these, you can convert them back to solid state very easily and cheaply, next symptom that will develop will be hard starting, then your starter motort will destroy itself

Could be anywhere between flywheel breaking up and injectors and pump.

If it is your flywheel, the starter will be pooped too for sure..

Because I seriously hope you aren't claiming white smoke from the exhaust is anything to do with a flywheel. If you are, then you really shouldn't be in that job.

I'm interested in this flywheel idea, as 2 people have suggested it but i'm struggling to see the link.

Personally if it was me I'd be testing the glow plugs first.
