If the thesis was made with US drivers it's no wonder at all. A country where a driving test consists of not more than successfully opening and shutting a car door cannot be considered to have "drivers". That loud music detracts from concentration is uncontestable, just see the superNova idiots with more decibels than their car has ccs! But the majority of drivers are fairly sensible and abide by the law especially where it applies to car radios not being loud enough to drown out other vehicle horns or police /ambulance klaxons!
Why can't these people go and spend their money worrying about someone else for a change! If I ever meet this guy I'm gonna slap him... with a nuclear warhead!
I listen to loud music in the car, sometimes it's fast tempo, sometimes it's slow, I do drive quicker when listening to fast tempo music but I don't take any risks!

A couple of years ago in one of them from hell programs they had 50+ complaining about local yoofs wif loud cars. They tested the said yoofs hearing and stated that it was on the way down below what was expected for that age due to the boom boxes they were in. Thicko's then state that they will have to turn it up then to here better 

They do have a point though. I find that I take more risks if listening to some dance music. I've banned heavy metal from the car and don't usually play up tempo stuff if it is raining or if I have to pay more attention than usual.
Not really something you can legislate against though. That is unless the black boxes fitted to cars record the music you listen to as well!

hmmm first time I ever got a car airborne off a hump back bridge was to Metallica - Ride the Lightning. Go figure.
Anyway, as for a 'heart pounding' 120bpm err the US have obviously not heard any Drum and Bass yet then. Still the States always were behind the times musicwise.
Still surely it works the other way too, if you put on some really slow sleep inducing music, you're probably more likely to passs out and crash.....
Seems like the whole thing was a complete waste of cash..

Hmm usually if I'm in the mood for low flying or taking risks then I turn the music down a bit to concentrate more on not killing myself.
As I'm a metal head I find that when I play the more agressive tracks loud I can get a bit ragey and a lot more likely to shout a people for doing anything remotely annoying in my field of vision.

The first (and hopefully only) time I've spun my Griff on the road, was due to my not hearing the ominous engine note change as the rear wheels broke traction on a wet road.
From that day, I resloved to make two changes; turn down (preferably off) the ICe when pushing-on; rip the silencing out of the exhaust (catted Griffs sound pants anyway compared to earlier non-cat cars, so this was a positive step).
