Bit random but given Premier League Football is such a big draw and costs the BBC a lot to get rights to, why is it buried away at 10.30pm onwards on a Saturday night?

I know there's a Sunday morning repeat but it just seems daft that kids can't actually watch it on the day?

p.s. I wonder if this will get moved to TV or to Sports...? biggrin

Is there a show on at the moment where some hasbeens get judged via a phone-in whilst eating monkey bks on ice while Bruce Forsyth hams it up?

If so, then thats why.

Its always been that late!

Probably the right time that us men don't want to be bothered by kids whilst drinking beer and eating take away.

Well, some.. BBC probably just chuck it to the back as they have their popidolsuperstardancer thing first now.

I prefer the former comment biggrin

I know, random thought I guess.

Just seems odd given that the BBC pay millions for football rights and then almost bury it.

I did wonder if it's literally because of the production time vs. target audience.

I'm not really into football (I'm originally from Watford) and haven't been forced to watch seen MOTD for donkey's.

Does it still start "der der der der deller de de de, de der deller de de"?

I would imagine it's because Sat evening programming is primarily aimed at family viewing. Sports is not designated as family viewing.

I suspect you're right. Personally I don't know how a country survives on a diet of dancing on ice and laughing at people who can't sing but it still just seemed strange to spend hundreds of millions on rights and then consign it to that late a slot - ditto the Championship/League stuff afterwards.

I had to run back from the pub to catch it before I got a digi-box

Isn't it put on at that time to catch people coming in from the pub? Although having it at half ten doesn't really make sense, but I'm sure that's what I was told by a BBC person at some do I was at.

Isn't it because it takes them that long to edit all the highlights?

IIRC when ITV had the highlights they started showing them at about 9pm but it was a ratings disaster so maybe thats why?

More likely because ITV just don't know how to "do" football IMO.

Maybe because it takes a while to get Lawro wound up. He always looks like he's a good hour past his bed time!

MOTD2 on a Sunday night is pretty dire isn't it?

Sky bought the rights - they have footy on all evening from 8pm!

ISTR it is something to do with the package. They cannot show it before a certain time.

I just watch it for the 2 Good 2 Bad. There's only about 2 games and I've probably seen the goals on Sky Sports earlier in the day.
