I have a client who is trying to use a Mac Mini on one of the new LED based 32" Samsung screens.

Now, the manual says use the HDMI2 port to get the screen resolution correct, but doing this disconnects the audio playing in on the audio input.

Move the input across to HDMI1/DVI and the audio starts to work but the resolution is incorrect. Obviously the DVI is video only which is why the screen is looking else where for its audio.

Any ideas how to correct this?

As far as i can remember on these sets, the only difference between the two is that HDMI2 gets its audio from the HDMI lead where HDMI1 is DVI backwads compatable (via an HDMI-DVI adapter)so there is provision to get the audo from elseware instead of the HDMI. Resolution wise both inputs sould be the same.

So if i needed seperate audio (via phono or 3.5mm jack) use HDMI1
If the audio comes via the HDMI lead then use HDMI2

Sorry if i just repeted something you already knew wink

What resolution is it showing on the DVI input?

If you go to System Preferences>Displays, what options show when it's connected to that input?

Sorry for the partial thread hijack - i've just got a Mini DVi to HDMI cable off of ebay - with a view to playing stuff straight off the macbook into the TV.

As an asside, why the f*CK i cant play video content that i've bought on itunes through any other media player i find mildly incredulous.... bought 'BBC Earth' thingy in HD (just one episode - only three quid or so,) yet its the only thing that my media streamer will not recognise....... anyways...

There appears to be no audio signal through the TV - is this a feature of this sort of cable - or have i just got a duff one?

tricky to test - as i don't think i have any other Mini DVi sources to try the cable in....

I am pretty sure the Mac DVI output only does video.

To get audio, use a 3.5mm to phono pair cable out of the headphone jack to your amp/TV. It may also take an optical cable (the Mini does, not sure on the Macbook as never needed to try).

I bought a new 2.53GHz Mac Mini with 256MB nvidea card this weekend.

Mac Mini uses a mini display port to Dvi adapter cable in the box. Then attach Dvi to HDMI cable and then connect that to your amp or TV. Note, is video only. The 3.5 jack on rear of the mini is analogue and optical. Get optical 3.5mm jack to ordinary optical cable to go into amp /tv. Cables available from Amazon. You might want to sniff out the mini display or mini Dvi to hdmi cables that do without the adapter cable in the mini box.

Then set to resolution 1080p (mine is on a Pionner LXC72 amp attached to Kuro 5090). Mini detects the display and is happy running 1080p. Set aspect ratio on panel to wide (dot by dot), and the display is perfect!

Load up airmouse and let your iPhone control it all!

Also, recovered files from my MacBook Air to the mac mini using restore function on my time machine and apart from some user naming issues, is very good as all the apps on the Air also work and are installed correctly on the mini. The keychain was synced using my mobileMe account. Very trick!

Just need that new mouse that comes with the new iMac .... smile
