Adjusting GAZ shocks - recommendations?
Discussion
Hi all, after driving a couple of hundred miles today, I still thing the Tusc is not as planted on the road as I think it should be.
Even on a couple of bumpy bits it grounded a bit. I wasn't hanging about though!
Maybe the shocks need adjusting. I bet some of you have played with the GAZ shocks a lot - do you have any recommendations as to their settings please?
Ta
Andy.

Andy is your car the height it appears in your profile pic? If so the first thing would be to raise it up an inch and a half to put it where it should be, or think about some stiff springs ..
I don 't have the Tuscan in my profile pics yet, will do so shortly...
I think the ground clearance is correct.
When people are saying '8 clicks', do you mean 8 clicks towards + ?
Thanks
Andy.
I think the rear of the car should be 50mm higher than the front? Ask Matt at Sebring International.
On very bumpy roads, when really going for it, mine still bottoms out occasionally. I think there has to be some compromise between a low Centre of Gravity and ground clearance on a "dual purpose" car like the Tuscan?
IMHO stiffening up the car for trackdays can be counter productive. It will depend on tyre profiles etc, as sometimes more grip is induced when the sidewall is deflected. Round Snetterton my Tuscan seemed faster than others on the twisty bits with the original 16" spiders and a "soft" suspension setting. Again at Marham the soft suspension worked really well, with even tyre scrub across the whole width of all four tyres.
...always open to other opinions though!

Don't ask the shocks to do the job of the springs. Cars ground (assuming everything hanging off the underside like exhausts is where it should be) because ride height is wrong or the springs are too soft - wrong rate, wrong length or the wrong age!
Not uncommon for road cars with adjustable shcoks to be overdamped and undersprung.
New shock/spring packages with adjustable spring seats often need to be adjusted soon after fittment.
