Cup holder or cubby-hole?

Has anyone manufactured an ally surround for the ash-tray hole so that it can be converted into a cup-holder? Seems like it might be a sensible thing to do.
Similarly, I'm thinking of making a small cubby-hole/glove-box for the passenger side.
Could be made from MDF and covered with leather, the same as the rest of the interior. But where to get a square metre or so of the right type/colour leather I wonder?
