Would you put your TVR on a lift like this?

My neighbour has just installed a scissor-lift similar to this and I'm wondering whether I can lift the Chim with it?

I'm just thinking it could be useful to get to the underneath, rather than using axle stands but don't want to attempt it if it's going to knack the chassis/outriggers?

Coincidentally there is a similar thread running on the AMOC forum at the moment. This chap has bought one from Strongman Tools for about £1700 and it looks like a really useful piece of kit. He's made some solid wooden/rubber blocks to fit the chassis and protect it as it lifts, I assume you could do something similar for your TVR. http://www.strongmantools.co.uk/

For £1700 quid you could get a four poster which gives you access from the sides. The one with the Aston on would be a PITA with those tubular links going across the floor area.
Also your outriggers would be almost impossible to get at.

On the bit that is recessed into the floor, is what can best be described as a long, flat 'cog' that a metal plate passes over when the lift is going up and then locks into place when at the desired height. So to lower the car, you need to raise it a bit so that the metal plate 'unlocks' itself.Haven't described it that well but I know what I mean(!) and I have no qualms on that front.
It is extendable lenghtways and has a series of hard rubber blocks that you can place between the lifing platform and the chassis.
Look like it could be OK and save me some cold, wet backs in the winter..

Interesting, because initially I thought the same, indeed I remember thread a year ago when loads of TVR chaps all bought 4 posters. But the plus with the scissors is that you can easily get the wheels off to work inside the wheel arches etc. Plus you obviously don't have the posts obstructing the garage. Pro's and con's I guess? Also your outriggers would be almost impossible to get at.

Nice Porn...Have to agree, I'd get a 4 poster...well I have (INTERN)....Had a friends Sag on it this morning, and it didn't ground the front , backing it on.... missed by the thickness of a piece of paper Also your outriggers would be almost impossible to get at.

Thanks for your comment Stevie Mojo, that's kept me busy all Summer, but thoroughly enjoyed doing it. Sad I know, but cleaning the underside of the car is a piece of cake now all that horrible black waxoyl has been removed (apart from a new application of clear on top of the outriggers).

I'm a sparky to (and much nearer than madmatt) but to be quite honest you will probably find it'll be happy on a 13amp plug. Suck it and see.
