Is your bathroom totally tiled?
Discussion
Our bathroom is and have always been tiled half way up and then the rest painted. Aside from the shower area which is tiled almost all the way to the top bar around 30cm
The painted wall bit needs some work - sanding to smooth and repainting.
I am think its easier to just remove all the tiling and retile the entire bathroom.
But the thought of a totally tiles bathroom feels a bit 'cold' to me. I am trying to think of bathrooms I have been into that area totally tiled but I am drawing a blak, I can only remember a horrid hotel room that just felt so cold - because the tiles were all shiny white
Any thoughts or suggestions?
I spose I would want matt tiles, large ones - but cheap
Where do you guys source your tiles from?

Personally, I do not like fully tiled bathrooms. They seem to 'close' the room in with less scope to personalise or should I say make it more homely. Also, 'tis a lot easier to redecorate. That is, a fresh coat of paint on ceiling, walls and woodwork, as opposed to having to re-tile. Oh, and it is possible to re-tile over existing tiles if you so wish.
we are totally tiled, like it when we bought it, it's also a small room, but to honest we have never really noticed any feeling of being 'closed in' just feels like a bathroom, no help am I?
(It is always a cold room though- maybe cos we have the window open most of the time to be rid of the bog smell

No. I have slate on the floor. The shower enclsoure is fully tiled in large white tiles with a row of thick actual pebbles thing going round.
Then behind the bath and basin - same white and other tiles - just not up to the ceiling.
I really think tiling depends on size and shape of room and the look you are trying to achieve. It can look fantastic - just not right for our bathroom

My ensuite bathroom is totally tiled with travertine style ceramic tiles. They are about 12" by 18" and laid verticle brick bond style. Personally I think they look great and much less messing than half tiled/half painted. It doesn't seem to close the room down probably because of the size of tiles used. Small 6" tiles would probably be too much. Also there isn't any pattern as such which looks better than older style tiles.
I did the main bathroom with real travertine tiles (lots of variations due to the natural material), but only went to ceiling height round the shower end of the room. The rest I went about 20 cm above the height of the previous tiles (120cm up the wall) so that I could simply remove and replace the plasterboard complete with the old tiles then 'hide' the join of the new plasterboard and not have the expense of replastering. It allowed a section of wall to be painted so we can have a change of colour scheme if we fancy it in future. It also helps that I put a wall to wall mirror at the sink end as it makes the room look much bigger as it's not the biggest bathroom in the world.
Ours was half tiled, and wifey wanted it all done. But, we couldn't find any matching tiles, apart from a half dozen spares we hade. So, we did the new bit in white tiles, and interspersed them with the originals. Plus a few decorative tiles with inserts in. I also fitted a glued in mirror in one wall, to break it up. Of course, I couldn't find one the exact size, but filled the cock up with some small glass tile things.
I've never tiled before, but I thought it came out okay.

That looks really good. I had my bathroom completely tiled (in a similar fashion with blye/green mosaic strips) but used a natural-looking cream coloured tiles for the floor. In hindsight (and after getting the bill for the tiles) i think i would have gone for half-painted for the non-wet areas, as it seems a 'waste', but it depends on the effect you are trying to achieve. Our en-suite is fully tiled, as is the top floor shower room. The main bathroom is half tiled, and my OH wanted it fully tiled - personally, I couldn't see the point of fully tiling it, as there isn't a shower in to get it as steamy as the other 2 rooms.
The top shower room isn't 'cold' at all, even though it's all white with a row of turquoise/blue/green glass tiles in the middle to break it up. Our en-suite needs a few shelves putting up, but other than that it's ok. I think the size of the tile is a big consideration, as the top floor has small tiles, while the en-suite has larger ones...
