Not quite sure what's going on here with one of the photographs I uploaded yesterday from Halaman Bay on the Isle of Barra.

This morning when I logged on around 11am there were already over 300 views on this image today (bear in mind I only uploaded it yesterday and it had only seen 1 solitary comment), yet today something is pinging it like nobodys business from somewhere out in the realms of the interweblets...

None of the usual ways of tracking where the pic is being viewed throw up meaningful data...who knows...

I quite often get 'unknown source' referrals but not on that scale- 10-30 a day on each of several diff pictures. I've always just considered the URL got picked up by some sort of bot at a moment in time when the picture was 'hot'; flickr seems fairly arbitrary how it allocates interestingness in an image's first few hours after upload.

Yeah, the lower scale views are normal, but this one is just mad - even now it's still getting more views than the rest of the pics in the same time period - around 459 now...

What does it say when you click on the link to view the stats? Flickr wouldn't show up as "unknown source" if it was on explore.

Edited to say, flickr WOULDN'T show up as unknown source.

Here's the stats page for the photo itself...

Sometimes the SE robots go in and get lost and then send for re-inforcements, they then wander around aimlessly.

I had a massive spike in my stats. According to flickr it's something to do with one person viewing your pic using a proxy, which keeps refreshing (or something like that......). It's basically just one view but because the page refreshes frequently it shows up as lots of views. The offending pic was over 1000 views in under 3 hours. In the end I deleted it from the photostream and just uploaded it again.

There's loads of people complaining about the same thing in the help forums on flickr. There are one or 2 people who were the victim of a prankster who posted on a yahoo group with nasty comments, using on of their pics as his profile (so people were clicking on it), but on the whole it seems to be some computer thingymajig that does it.

You could always edit the description and ask people to comment on where they found the picture?

I had a big spike in traffic after I uploaded the burlesque/lingerie shots the other week. I don't think there was any mystery there though hehe

I already added something in the comments regarding it yesterday...

The pic finished with 553 views yesterday, and strangely enough 150 so far today again (still unknown source lol)...

This can happen quite often when a photo is commented on Twitter (then re-tweeted), or if the photo is picked up by a photo compare site such as GModules etc.

This pic is still amazing me - 510 views yesterday all of which were still from unknown source, and today it's closing in on the 500 marker already - yet again unknown source...

I've been through all the usual gubbins that claim to be able to track down links etc, none of which turn anything up...got fed up seeing 400+ views per day so just whacked it into a shedload of groups in the last hour to at least make it look semi-respectable against the views it has biggrin
