Want to be able to go see it, made from good solid wood with decent joints and all that jazz, not really interested in all these flat pack veneered things or metal/leather ones.

Just don't want to trudge around these warehouse places looking at things that I probably won't like...

Any advice much appreciated! smile

I have a friend who owns his own furniture company. When I was searching for furniture I was going to Barker and Stonehouse and did make the mistake of spending 7k on two sofas when he could have got me the same items for half the price.

Having furnished my house 12 months ago he supplied and delivered my dining room furniture (solid oak table, 6 chairs, glazed cabinet and a side board), my living room (again all solid oak, TV stand, mirror, mantel and 2 lamp stand), two bedrooms (usual robes, bedsides and chest of drawers.....all for £2700....keeping in mind that the glazed solid oak unit retails in most places (Christopher Pratts, Barkers etc for £1000).

I only wish my other bedrooms and sofas were bought from him before.

Let me know and Ill give you his phone number.

Thanks for the links!

Had a good look over both these websites now... lots of nice stuff.

I'm quite liking the style of the bed on the front page of the Dovetail website, the pine Lothersdale Collection bed... might give them a ring just for an idea on prices. Budget is fairly big but a decent king mattress isn't cheap so need to keep that in mind smile

The one thing we learnt recently when buying a new bed is to go around and spend time on finding the right mattress and then DO NOT buy it. Get yourself online and order the same one for £150 less than it is in the shops. We used www.mattress247.co.uk which is one of FGS furnishings websites. They got us the mattress we'd chosen at Yorkshire Bed Company, delivered in two days rather than three weeks and for significantly less money.
