Going to be stopping in Manchester next month with OH, any personal recommendations for nice eateries? Something different perhaps?

In all honesty despite Manchester being a massive city the food offering is not amazing. However, the following are all ok. Do your own research and work out which menu you like. You'll need to book well in advance with all of them:

Sam's Chop House - British Gastro Pub, good food, good service, beer and wine
San Carlo - Very good Italian, Good food, very bright, frantic service, very busy, lots of footballers
Lounge Ten - Good food, Romantic
Stock - Good Italian, very good Italian wine list

If you want something a bit different, have a look at Sam's - it's an old Victorian Pub with all the original features and very good food. The food is quite wholesome British, you won't leave with an empty stomach.

There are loads more places than the above, many of which are very good. So have a search yourself. Try www.manchesterconfidential.com

I don't rate San Carlo - poor service and food is hit and miss.

Chaophraya is a good Thai restaurant, Chapel Walks off Cross Street.

Koh Samui Thai restaurant on Princess Street

El Rincon if you like Spanish - quite hard to find, off Deansgate

Raj Doot if you want Indian, Albert Square

River Restaurant - The Lowry Hotel

Lounge 10 is good as is Stock and Sam's and Mr Thomas's Chop houses can be good.

El Rincon is good if you like original tapas. Chaophrya is excellent, as is the one in Leeds. Don't go to Akbar's if you're after decent service, although the food was okay.

We went to a Portugeuse place but the name escapes me. Off Deansgate.

Luso, that's it, just remembered

There's a Brazillian place that does meat on a kebab. Lots of meat. On big kebabs, or possibly swords, as they were that big. [sets that one up nicely for the PH massive] rolleyeshehe

Can't for the life of me remember what it's called, sorry, but the meat was really tasty, and just kept coming...

Please, for the love of God, remember to turn your little red/green disc over when you've had enough... one of our party didn't and he was off work for the best part of a month with bowel issues caused from too much steak. eek

There were 9 of us in total, 4 'big' chaps, 1 rugby player, and this whippet thin 57yo who still plays football... why he didn't stop when the rest of us did, I will never know! 36hrs later and he was in A&E!

PS, it was not far from 'Longlegs' if this helps!
