I seem to find myself incredibly stuck into my poor Cerbera. Drivers side manifold has to come out due to a crack.... which basically equals total carnage on my driveway. Given I've got 1/2 the engine off, I thought I'd take the opportunity to do some preventative maintenance & a general tart up, so a few questions:

1. Some areas of my heat reflective fabric that covers the transmission tunnel is pretty poor. Where is the cheapest place to get some replacement & do I just cut&glue it myself? If so, what sort of glue - would something like tigerseal be OK as an adhesive?

2. Exhaust manifold bolts / coolant rail questions
Bolts: Mine are all pretty flaky - anyone know what they are so I Can buy new ones? My manifold ones are REALLY rusty. I assume I have to use mild steel bolts on the manifold too, and can't just change for stainless? I'd love stainless if I can, but if not due to corrosion/flexability, obviously I'd go for mild.

Painting: Anyone painted the coolant rail? I Can't think of a reason why not, and mine look corroded and tatty so thought I Could put some red enamel on there. Stupid idea, or genius? I may try painting the manifold red too smile

Coolant rail o-rings: The coolant rails seem to have some sort of small rubber o-ring in the head - is this just sealant from over the years, or do they have an o-ring - if so, where do I buy new ones from?

3. I need to know what torques I need on the rebuild for:
-coolant rail into head
-exahust manifold into head
-engine mounts both sides, bolts into chassis, and single nut into rubber mount
-probably front suspension arms, upper, lower, shocks, brake callipers bolts too, as they may come off for a repaint.

Proper numbers would be nice - esp if I need threadlock on any smile

I think that is all for now, but I'm sure I'll have more questions. Thanks to jammy_basturd for his help so far, and to any of you who chime in!

Cheers,

Stuthemong.

cant be much help. but you can get boxes of o-ring in all different sizes from plumb center.

people do paint rads but i think they are pounder coated

dont think you can paint the manifold (outlet) due to the heat will just burn it off.

painting the coolant rails is no problem, most decent paints are spec`ed to 150 degr c, and your rail isn`t going to get that hothehe

Stu,

I'd try http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1545-aluminised-he... for the heat reflective material.

Coolant rails will be fine painted, though personally I'd leave the manifolds alone. If you want to do something with them then really they need wrapping or ceramic coating. You can get the proper O rings from any of the usual parts outlets - Power, Racing Green Clever Trevor etc. I'd use them rather than get off the shelf guesstimates as o rings are really difficult to measure properly and the last thing you want is a leak for the sake of a few pence.

If you need fixings http://www.namrick.co.uk/ is a good place.

Torque settings are 25 lbs/ft for the manifolds, though no torque is specified for the water rails in the AJP build manual. No loctite required, but they should have spring washers on.

Hope that helps, have funtongue out

itiejim,

Cheers for the link, ordered.

Apparently coolant rail are m8x20odd and manifold the same, albeit bolt head vs. hex head. Makes getting them easy as pie. I think I'll just get steel ones, and not risk stainless, unless anyone knows if they'd be fine? (I'm worried about expansion/snapping etc.. )

SP exhaust arrived today, manifolds are at the welders getting TIG'd. Coolant rails are going to be sprayed pimp red, exhaust left as-is (OK Malam? wink), but I've spent some time shotblasting them so they'll look much better. I'm then going to do something flair with my airboxes in time, all will be revealed in due course.

SP exhaust arrived today too. Woo.

Spent the day prepping outriggers for some POR15 style lovin' to see them over winter. Hands are ripped to shreds frown
