Advice on Chimaera Otter Switch Wiring

I had some work done on the alternator a few weeks ago and today I found some time to check the beast over.

On starting up I heard a weird sound, on looking I saw that the fan belt had worn on one side. I stopped it immediately and investigated further.

The wire from the Otter Switch appears to have come loose and has been pulled into the belt.

I have 3 queries:

1. What / where does the fan belt come from? (Landrover?)
2. Where can I get some more wire protection?, ie the plastic tube that surrounds most of the wires under the bonnet.
3. And finally, do the wires go behind or over / between the pulleys

Thanks Steve, will give it a go next weekend.

Will give the helpful chappies who put it back together a opportunity to sort the fan belt out

The wires pretty shredded, reckon it would be ok to extend them with standard auto connectors and some auto wire?

The wires should be in a plastic cover and attached to the Swirl/expansion tank with cable ties. If its shredded then solder some more wire in is place (you can use conectors but solder and heat shrink are best for a perminent replacement). With regard to the fan belt, They are a TVR part and dependent on what mods your car has (aircon, pas...) got a new one for mine (96 4ltr) from TMS for about £10.

As stated in the bible... The serpentine belt is a TVR special. Yes it has Land Rover and a Dayco part number on it but it is only available through TVR. Been there done that... went to TMS mail order!

The belt on mine (2000X 4.0) is a 7 rib belt 1850mm long, hence the part number would be 7PK1850, the Land Rover part number is ERR 5267. If you can find the same sized belt in another make it does not matter as long as the number of ribs and length are exactly right. If you are stuck the next closest is 7PK1853, the Land Rover part number for that is ERR6191.

Indeed the Serp belt is a TVR only thing. I once worked in a Lnadrover parts dept. and tried to find one of these such belts. After talking to about 15 people at Landrover I ot through to someone in development and he said they will only sell the belts to TVR and TVR only.
