After seeing the thread ref the hole in the Toyo tyre it brought up a few concerns about loads ratings on tyres, as in the Monaro's needing a high load rating.

Also after reading the Autocar used car review and it mentioning the std tyres i.e Pirelli's not being brilliant im keen to try out another make of them this time round.

With regards the load ratings some tyres ive looked at have been rated 89, 93 or 98, im guessing the higher the number the heavier the car they can take? Which would be best for our cars?

Also can I go 255 or even 265 width on the std VXR 19' alloys?

Thanks

High the number = stiffer sidewall and higher load support (which is usually better) but firmer ride.

You should also take into account the load rating...usually a letter V,X,Y (Y being Better)

I personally wouldn't go higher than 255 on standard rims( If you imagine at 245 your sidewall is vertical, the more you increase the tyre width the more of a lean your side wall will have, not so good for handling and stress on the tyre.

V/X/Y, etc is the speed rating rating isn't it ?? The load rating is the 91/93/95 bit I think ?

Monkfish suggests not to go any lower than a 93 on the back from other threads but 95 is the recommended from standard.
