Have I polished it too much??
Discussion
I was experimenting on the Omega with some cutting compound and my megs G220 polisher and the paint started to look like this...

I can't tell if I have removed the laquer or not. Tbh it actually looks brighter and better than where it has not been polished.
Please can someone tell me what I have done to the paint?

Not easy to tell with those pics but looks like (unless there was some thick layer of crud) you've gone too far.
FAIK most Vauxhalls have single stage paint so there is no clear coat...
A worrying last sentence you've put up there, if you machine polish cars as part of your business ?FAIK most Vauxhalls have single stage paint so there is no clear coat...
whys that? Personally I dont do anything abrasive without taking paint readings.
Single stage paint = no clearcoat. Thats why when you polish for example a red car you get red on the pad = no clearcoat.
All the Vauxhalls I have done have had no clearcoat.

Best wishes

Mark, unfortunately you've went a bit far with the polishing, and you're through to the paint layer, or left a very thin layer of clear.
Time for a respray - £150 typically should see it done and blended into the wings.
Don't use any wax/sealant for 2 months, to let the curing process complete, otherwise you'll extend the time it does and have softer paintwork than you would if left unprotected.
I wouldn't even use a QD, unless you've been absolutely told it's entirely silicone free.

Thanks for all the replies gents. I am going to buy a replacement bonnet, I have found one the same colour for about £30.
Cunning and means you can practice a bit more on the old bonnet. Well played for having a go, I still haven't got around to claying yet despite owning some for nearly a year!!Cheers,
Rob

Blimey. Even a cheapie independent bodyshop round here would be double that to paint a bonnet and blend adjoining...Tol

^A DRMotorsport job then!
Sounds like the OP has the best option @ £30, nice result as mentioned!
Practise on the old one, then stick it on eBay

Going the other way now and ditching the spoiler from the 97 sti

Great solution as mentioned above. £30 to fix the problem is a bonus.
