Hello guys.

Currently looking into selling my Focus RS and getting into the world of V8s, comfy seats and worn out rear tyres.

I'm 23, 5 years NCB and the best quote i've had so far has been with Admiral for £1300ish.

Rung up A-Plan after hearing so many good things about them and they were useless! First time I rung the guy said he was busy and then didn't ring me back, rang back again, this time the lady took my details but didn't get back to me so I rang back and they just told me to take the Admiral quote! I thought they were meant to be the gurus?

Is there anyone as young as me on here with a Monaro? any suggestions? Don't really want to pay over £1k for insurance after being told it'll only cost me £600 to insure a Noble M12.

Will I get the same treatment from Adrian Flux?

I think you may struggle to get it under a grand especially if your car has mods.
You can try Flux, Sky or Classicline, all have been known to come up with reasonable quotes for these cars, but good luck, I think you're gonna need it!

One bit of advice to you. Don't give up hope. Keep plugging away. I rang around for a couple of days until I got the magic quote. I was pooping my pants as I had paid the deposit on the car and was thinking "crap, I'm gonna have to give her up, I can't get insured, no one will touch me".

Eventually I got a cracking price. Once I had owned her for a year, I started getting reasonable quotes from people that turned me down on my first year of ownership. You're a young owner, but not far off some of the younger Ro owners on here. I was 29 when I got mine, but know there are other owners in their early 20's. After a lot of shopping around I was quoted £622 by Greenlight with my Dad as a named driver. Jackpot!

Get Max Power and check the specialists insurers. Try some of the key specialist suppliers mentioned in the post above.

There are some Monaro friendly insurers listed in the FAQ's here:

Oh god... do I have to?

Yeha i've seen the specialists list, and I guess i'll move onto Adrian flux etc. tomorrow. I was just really surprised about A Plan being so rubbish, having read a lot of good things about them on here.

I've been to see one tonight... I'd forgotten how nice they were. Certainly not a real Vauxhall!

Adrian Flux are expensive......they quoted me £750 this year, and i'm 45 years old with 6 years no claims! So i stayed with Green Light who did mine for £630...thats for a CV8 with Wortec sports pack.

Im 25 on a VXR500 spec car and its £690 fully comp with elephant. Although im switching that to trade insurance in December and splitting the cost of the policy with other users of it so will cost me about £200 per year for insurance

Try elephant and Bell insurance.

I'd def give Elephant a try, have had a few high performance cars and they always came up best quote, I'm with A Planplan now as they matched Elephants price, plus Elephant are poor for paying in instalments, circa £200 extra quoted last year. A Plan only charged me about £50.

Go in to confused.com enter your details and it will provide you with 50odd quotes

I expect you will pay around £1k its more powerful than a Noble and generally more of an everyday car.

Yeah that's how I got the admiral quote, and it actually got cheaper when I added more miles!

£1295 best price with admiral,

Phoned Adrian Flux, best quote with them is £1146, but that's unlimited mileage, so better.

Will continue to ring round methinks!

I'm going through this at the moment - Elephant is so far the cheapest at £484 with my other half on the policy (30 years old, no points, full no claims) on a 6.0 VXR. I'm yet to call A-Plan or Flux though.

Worth noting that a 5.7 CV8 is quite a bit more expensive to insure for me - by a margin of 50% in some cases - maybe rarity? Who knows..!

im 22 with 4 years ncb, i pay £860 fully comp on a 04 cv8, if your old folks are clean trying adding them as named drivers, it knocked quite a bit off mine

Yeah good points above:

Add older ppl to the policy if not got any points, try one then the other then both to see which is cheapest combination if doing parents - Mam put mine up Dad brought it down.

Get quotes to garage and leave the car outside, might seem odd but the outside option for me was ALOT cheaper, apparently the insurers believe if I must keep my car inside theirfore I live in a crap area and the car is more likely to get broken into - weird.

Try a quote with and without a tracker, some drop dramatically for this others hardly move or dont at all. Be realistic on your mileage and how the car will be used, if you are rarely going to commute but still want it insured for this tell them.

Ultimately remember insurers are purely a risk assessment business, what you see as a risk to the car they do aswell, plan out what to say before speaking to them!

Can only echo what others have said, Admiral/Elephant seem to like Monaro's though for me Elephant are always slightly cheaper.

Still seems a bit expensive, I got my 6.0 VXR when I was 23 with 0 NCB and it was only £1200 with exhaust mod declared.
