Question re: dangerous driving

A friend of mine has recently recieved a summons for dangerous driving on a dual carriageway. He was making progress in the outside lane in convoy with a mercedes in front. He was pulled on the spot and told he was clocked at 97mph a few car lengths from the merc in front (the merc was also pulled)

What punishment is he likely to receive for this? How likely is it that the charge could be downgraded to a lesser one such as careless driving. He is also looking for a a motoring lawyer to represent him in the Basingstoke area if anyone has any suggestions.

He doesn't have internet access for the moment but I will pass the details on to him and he may be able to give more details if necessary if he can get to a pc.

anything from a fine to upto 2 YEARS INSIDE!!

tell him to get a good solicitor and barrister FAST!!

From what you've said - this is unlikely to fall within CPS guidlines for Dangerous Driving. I feel charges of Due Care, plus the speeding are more likely. This is all a little close to home for me. If you want THE best solicitor to deal with this, his name is David Melville-Walker of Talbot Walker Solicitors, based in Andover. Don't have the number to hand - try that 118 bollox.

Where can the details of maxiumum punsihments be found on the net? I could only track down the information about endorsements on the dvla site. xxplod - cheers - I will pass the name onto him.

Has anyone on the board been summonsed for a similar offense? What was the outcome?
