As I went to open my laptop my GF asked me to not move it as she is gluing something on the table and using my laptop for a weight. Wasn't too concerned about the bottom of the laptop but was slightly concerned about my solid oak table underneath.

Don't worry, says she, 'I checked it and it is fine'. However, I wanted to have a look at PH so moved it with the view to putting another weight in place. What a surprise, the glue got stuck to the table and has taken veneer of the table.

What is the best fix for this is there a product I can buy to cover it up?

That's not too bright is it! Can you recover /slice off the errant veneer from what it stuck to? If so you will at least get a less ugly repair.

Best thing would be to locate a laptop over the damage, they tend to be just the right size.hehe

Well, after being very patient and non confrontational, she came back with a box of crayons! The man at the DIY shop said they would be able to 'cover up' the problem...

'What about not gluing stuff on the table in the first place,' I said; was met with silence as it appears to be my fault? Ah well.

Apply lots of fake tan to gf's face. Then undertake skin graft from your gf onto the table?

If you hadn't left your laptop around this would never have happened

Ok I will ask as noone else has...

How does vaneer(sp) come off a solid oak table?

surely being solid ok it will take the varnish up or tarnish the oiled wood, but not rip up vaneer as that implies oak wood effect vaneer on MDF?

Im all confused... Help!!

Unless she was glueing the expiry date on your unlimited blow job voucher that she was making you as a present, you should make her pay for a new table.

I think it took the oil off as it peeled to a lighter colour.

Doh.

OK, well sand it all back to bare wood and refinish. Otherwise I don't think you'll ever match it.

French polish, or boot polish or even car polish assuming you can get 70's colours still, of course these are bodge repairs and not for quality items.

The best fix is to dump her or you could buy a bag to cover her up?

It sounds like she has a touch of "the mental" about her.
