Anyone see this? Saw it for first time last night - think the premise is that Phillipe Starke gets a load of supposdly talented product designers to design some new products. Reality Tv at its most unimaginative.

You should see some of the stuff they designed, never seen such stupid airheaded nonsense in my entire life. A degree in product design, must be like, really really hard work, because you must like, have to think about stuff and stuff.

Utter tripe.

I thought I'd love this as I studied Starck at university and knew how outlandish he was. How wrong could I be, TV toilet.

Agreed.

I did a better project for my GCSE Design and realisation.

If they are supposed to be the best 10 young designers in the country, we are in serious trouble.

I am tempted to spend a few hours on the brief myself and come up with something better...

Yes but it seems you need to have stupid hair with product in it to be taken seriously... ask yourself this question, is your hair stupid enough for Phillipe Stark?

Just started watching this on iPlayer. As a Graphic Design student, i will probably find it more interesting than you lot, but some of the stuff so far is absolute dump!! One thing I don't like about Starck/Starke/Starcke, is that he cares too much about it being environmental, which rules out a lot of possibilities.

It's finished now hasn't it? I'm only on the 4th episode, but that 32-year old looks about 50!!

A good point that Starck made was that Nebil is a better businessman than designer. I don't think he should've gone. I liked his relaxed (and somewhat cocky) atyle. He wasn't panicking like all the others which would've helped him.

I actually loved it, and was surprised it didn't pick up more of an audience a la the Apprentice.

The contestants were initially shamefully bad - and an embarrassment to the English education system, but actually the last two ended up producing stuff that wasn't bad - maybe Starck taught them something after all, or maybe the model maker saved their bacon by turning crap ideas into things that looked okay.

To be fair, it sounds like I gave up on it too quickly. My boss was raving about it towards the end but I couldn't bring myself to watch it.

You missed nothing. All that effort and what do we get? From what I saw, a tray with some utensils, and a funny-shaped walking stick with a fancy name (whose form incidentally seemed to owe more to the skill of the model maker than the designer).

Made me despair really. The standard of designers coming out of college seems to have gone through the floor in the last 15 years.

I saw it as a Product design Apprentice / Dragons Den. Saw the last 2 episodes last night. I think the right 2 got in the final. That woman with the light glove thing? Utter turd!! That wobbly stool/chair was too complex as well.
