Having recently bought a Porsche 944 turbo. I was in discussion with a fellow owner.

We think that very few 944 turbos came to the UK and were discussing how many would be left now.

I also have the idea of starting a 944 turbo forum (a bit like Rennlist) to ensure that the 944 turbo community stay together, share knowledge and keep these machines on the road.

I was wondering if fellow 944 turbo owners would feel like they wanted to participate in something like this, or do all the current forums (PH, TIPEC, Rennlist, Pelican, PCGB) perform a good enough role?

Personaly think that the PCGB 944 forum is the most friendly, knowledgeable and informative 944 forum around. The Rennlist one is similarly excellent, so I'm not sure that there is enough room for a dedicated 944t one.

Still miss my '91 car - after 3 months!

I think the largest number of Turbo owners are already on the PCGB forum, but there are also plenty on Tipec and several on here. A recent query to Porsche GB resulted in the following 944 numbers in the UK:

944 (early & oval dash) Manual-------4594
944 Auto ---------------------------529
944S--------------------------------568
944S2------------------------------1298
S2 Cabriolet-------------------------641
Turbo-------------------------------600
Turbo Cabriolet----------------------78
Turbo S-----------------------------58

Total--------------------------------8366

There's always been talk about wanting a seperate 944 Turbo Register within the 944 Register of the PCGB. I've always resisted it, as we are shrinking in numbers throughout the 944 community as cars get written off, scrapped, or descend into "banger" status where the owners aren't interested in keeping them on the road when the bills arrive. The Register isn't so big that it needs breaking into seperate models IMO, with now less than 1000 944s in the PCGB Register I can always find model-specific info if needed.

I'd say the same about forums. If we spread too thinly then the experience gets diluted or even lost. I'd happily put a "turbo" sub-forum in the 944 section, but as it's only a small number of areas that would be specific to the turbos I imagine it would get very little use. Always open to ideas, though.

There actually used to be a seperate Register for the Silver Rose Turbos, but with such a small number of cars around it died a death around 1999 IIRC

Ok waiting for a few more reponses as it seems that a turbo register/forum might work?

Paul - could we try it if we get enough interest?

Red938 - I have a C registration car - has been putting out 300bhp previously, now back at 220bhp.

Given the depth of knowledge on the general PCGB 944 forum that can be mined for turbo specific needs, am not sure what would be gained by either having a seperate turbo sub forum or register really ?
