Syndicate owing a Track Day car ???
Discussion
5 of us are considering buying a track day car,and trailering the track (so no MOT,no Tax, no Insurance). Are there any potential problems (besides falling out with each other) that others have encountered with this sort of arrangement.
http://bookatrack.com/-pb_Frequently-Asked-Questio... does say only 2 drivers per car (although no charge for second driver) on their Open Pit lane events....is this normal ??? We wouldn't mind paying for the extra drivers and the extra track time, just want to use the same car.

We charge per extra driver or passenger, some other TDOs do the same.
I would think that the main problems with arrangements like this are going to be if some of the "owners" want to spend money on it but others don't, or questions over who pays if it gets damaged on track etc so well worth making sure that everyone agrees what the terms are before joining in.

You'll need to work out who manages the car - who is responsible for it. Are you going to outsource the maintenance? Who decides what needs to be done?
Is it all equal shares for things that need doing? Regular maintenance is ok. Something wearing out is ok. What about if something breaks becuase of what one person does (like an over-rev)? What if someone totals it?
I think you may need to review whether you have an MoT. I think some TDO's ask for MoTs on what are essentially road cars.
Sounds fun, but could be fraught!

I'm US based, but despite using a non titled non insured non street legal track day car, I'm concerned about my personal health insurance co denying me coverage for hospitalization.
If I even ask about track insurance for a car, my car insurance carrier will drop me.
Unlike here where my car insurance 'carrier' does track day cover for about $50.If I even ask about track insurance for a car, my car insurance carrier will drop me.
I co-own a track car (well two now actually) and think it's a great idea. It's so much better having costs halved, particularly on a car that doesn't get used that often. But....I'd never share a car five ways. Even three would be too many IMHO.
We've had the odd difference of opinion on our car but with two people it's easy to sort out. Anymore would be a nightmare for making decisions I would think. Cost wise it's a good idea though, I guess.

Bloody ell Keith you finally got the track day bug.http://bookatrack.com/-pb_Frequently-Asked-Questio... does say only 2 drivers per car (although no charge for second driver) on their Open Pit lane events....is this normal ??? I co own a track car also, its road regsitered but only used for track, and the odd hack to keep the battery topped up.
sharing a car between 2 only just gets enough track time in for the cost etc, splitting 3 plus ways you would lose interest waiting around all day for another slot in the car.

5 could be to many if its not an open pit lane you would have to wait ages to have your turn and maybe only get one go!
me and my mate bought this evo

Paid 8k for standard car and 4k getting it ready for track , coilovers , cage, big brakes , re map, wheels, tyres, bucket seats , harnesses, gauges it goes on!
True it will cost you more to start off with and if it broke the cost would be east between 5 of you but you would spend most track days waiting around for you go
It pains me now waiting for my turn with 2 of us let alone 5!!
