Can anyone offer any thoughts and comments on these models please. I had a peek at one recently and they are very appealing..to me at least. I realise they are at a premium at 3.5k over the standard model, but It has caught my eye and I like It. I understand the movement (1861) harks back to the original Speedmaster of the early 60's (321). Just wondering what people think of these and If any deals can be got on this model. They are Limited to 7 969 pieces and while I am not thinking they will be much of an Investment In this life time, I do think they are not only a lovely watch but a nice piece of mechanical art to keep for the long term. Thanks for any Input.smile

I have a moon watch - all of the basic watches have the 1861 movement - it isn't something that they have re-introduced for this edition.

I am sure that you could get some discount - they aren't that rare and don't seem to have exactly shot off the shelves......

It is all marketing, but I think that if I didn't already have a Speedie and was in the market for one I would seriously consider paying a premium for one of these.

They used to have one pride of place on display at a shop I walked past every day.

It's gone now, and after pressing my nose up against the window for the past few weeks it bagan to get a bit anonymous with everything else surrounding it.

Totally out of my league, so I'll shut my trap, apart from saying I wish Seiko had the marketing get up and go to mass market the Spacewalk

Or the Chinese to do the same with the Fiyta Spacemaster

Behave !

My missus (having a guilty complex and pretending to take an interest in my interests) asked my if I'd seen that ''Watch like your monster that they wear in space''. I got aroused, and then promptly deflated again as soon as I saw the words $$ Spring Drive $$

Was that price for one of the four that went up ?

It certainly was, mind you, alongside the one-off patek philippes going for $300,000+ it seems like a bargain!

If I had the spare cash, I would have one without a second thought. As it is, will have to start saving for the 50th Anniversary Moon landing version. Have a 50th Anniversary Patch Ltd Ed and I love it and wearing it now as I type this.

The (charity) auctioned watch was the one that actually went to the space. According to Seiko web site, they will make 100 pieces of the commemorative edition for USD 28,000 a piece. I also would love to see this fantastic watch be mass produced and become affordable for mere mortals.

I did a bit of frantic googling the other night, IIRC they sent four up.

I guess the special editions are all gone now, the real space ones didn't have a screw in crown but the common or garden earth bound ones do. Just in case you get offered one in the pub.

Sending a watch into orbit is a different story to one going to the moon of course.
