Ladies and gents i have come across an alfa 156 mjet for sale very low miles very low price. 04 reg iirc. Factory nav leather int etc. I travel all over the uk roughly 50-60k miles a year. At the mo my a4 is bothering me.

It needs in no specific order...
A full service 180 quid
Cambelt 300 quid.
Two seatbacks (audi part is roughly 70-80 each)
Front pads 50 quid fitted
Front discs 50 quid fitted
Aircon isnt working not sure why been quoted 800 for new condensor apparently not essential to have but would be nice.
Tyres will soon need replacing all round roughly 400 quid
I new cupholder 50-100 quid

Now that being said its done 246000 miles without fault rattle or squeak and is very comfy and quiet at speed. At a guestimate present value is somewhere round 500-2k pounds The alfa i am looking at has less than 40k on the clock and i may be able to get it for less than 3500.

Anything to look out for and is it worth it or should i stick to my uber reliable german barge?

Read this for a start

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Then have a browse round on alfaowner.com

The main things are the suspension bushes and ensuring the cambelt/auxbelt/tensioners/waterpump are done on time (or well before ideally).

Bear in mind the Veloce is really quite a hard ride. It will feel harsh and noisy compared to your A4. It's the only thing that bugs me with mine (2005 156 Sportwagon 2.4JTDm), over some badly laid motorway surfaces it is extremely noisy and would get tiresome after high mileages. I have come from an E39 540 though, they are like driving the drawing room.

What engine and model is it (Lusso, Veloce etc), is it manual or selespeed? As long as it's had the belts done (inc waterpump), isn't making any unusual knocks or squeaks, has a good history, tax and MOT then go for it. Sounds like your Audi needs a fair wedge splashing out on it and it's not like the engine is nice n fresh is it?
