You mean a halftone image.

A method used in litho (and some other) printing methods whereby a wide range of colours and shades can be made by using various sizes of cyan, magenta, yellow and black dots.

The line screen (specified as lpi) is a measure of the coarseness of the dots. A low linescreen (as seen in newsprint) will give bigger dots.

Not to be confused with dpi or resolution.

This one was done using a mosaic program, and is just made up from lots of different pictures.



This is probably more what you are looking for, and was done using the Rasterbator program mentioned above. Gives you the option to input how many sheets of paper you want to use for printed results, which allows for really big pictures, you can alter the size of the dots to make it as obscure as you want and you can either do it in full colour, or just a single colour.
