bought and watched this last night as it is £3 at tesco. great film, can't believe it took me this long to see it.

howeverm it being based on a series of books and having the ending obviously set-up for a sequel, are they due to make another?

Don't think so; well certainly nothing definite.

There is the occasional bit of chatter about it, but nothing from the studios. It wasn't that successful at the end of the day. It turned a profit, but not much of one (relatively speaking). It made about US$200mil gross, but cost US$150mil to make.

With a big film like that kind of budget, even in the year that the final LOTR was released, the expected revenue would have been at least US$300 gross.

pity. i guess it didn't make so much was that its not a traditional action-type film, its quite a slow burner and the battles don't play how you might expect them to. made for a better film imo.
