cl63 amg whats it like
Discussion
Bought my 2007 one last year, with 10,000 miles on the clock, and 2 new back tyres. It's now got 20,000 on the clock and just had another set. Fronts still OK, but will need doing soon.
Excellent car, 20-22mpg 'taking it easy', 16-20 trying hard, so not so bad. Servicing up to Mercedes dealer normal costs, ie expensive, but thorough. The previous owner obviously didn't use the fantastic big brakes enough, and I had all 4 brake discs replaced under warranty - which would have cost me £3k if I'd been paying. Now, the 20" AMG alloys need refurbishing due to lacquer lifting (covered by the bodywork warranty), but other than that no problems at all.
My car came loaded with extras, eg Distronic Plus (good, but I wouldn't specify it new), TV (ditto), ventilated seats (ditto), etc. These I could do without!
The 6.2 V8 is good, and you soon learn 'how to drive it'. It has a learning gearbox, and if you've been pootling around it will feel sluggish when you next boot it - but not for long. It immediately learns you want forward motion, and adjusts appropriately. The 'manual' changes are pretty quick when you really want to play - great fun. Exhaust note is excellent, and although you can't hear it too much from inside, everyone around you will hear you pull away.......
For a heavy car, ride and roadholding are good, with standard air suspension.
My only words of caution for you are to check rear head and leg room if the back is to be used regularly. Massive room in the front, but I'm not sure two big adults would want to go far in the back. This makes it a very big 2 plus 2!
I love it.
