So... i'm reasonably happy with insurance, can bear the running costs and I reckon the car suits me.

My current thoughts on what actual car I want are:

I don't really like the look of the CV8 but I love the VXR

5.7 - Nice big boot, seats that seem to wear out quite quickly? But cheaper.. www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1281487.htm
6.0 - Lovely interior, small boot. 2006 models higher road tax but from the looks of things the (labour) govt. is changing the rules again in 2010.

How much bigger is the big boot? I was pretty shocked when I opened it up at the dealer the other day, but i'm now wondering just how often I fill my boot. That seems to be the only real disadvantage of the 6.0 VXR, because the seats are nicer, the wheels are nicer and the engine is slightly bigger, and it seems to be less of a rarity so easier to get one.

My car will be used every day to commute 20 mile round trip and will be used for a 250 mile round trip every other weekend.

Your answer lies in the 04 VXR, large boot, hsv interior, suspension, gearing etc.
All other models are pointless.

Hmm, except there's only one for sale and the seats look pretty worn out and nowhere near as nice as the later VXR

Well I don't have to decide now I suppose, I've not even sold my other car yet, and a little voice in the back of my head is saying that getting one just before winter is a silly idea.

Nah they are fine and have traction control. But yes, if there is ice around there are better cars..

Hehe traction control.
I was wagging my tail at slower cars when overtaking on the motorway with TC still on.
Pointless device. Only serves to ruin quarter mile times when you forget it's on frown

Unless you have kids or carry alot of football kit etc around then the smaller boot really is not an issue. Ive never had a problem with mine apart from not being able to carry big stuff back from B&Q etc but thats what I have a second st box for. Winter driving is fine, just remember it wont be alot faster outright than your current RS but the midrange will catch you out as it has alot more and the tyres will let go easily when provoked! smile

Hello mate,

I had a CV8 a couple of years ago and have recently got a 5.7 VXR. I wanted and searched for 5.7 over the 6.0 for several reasons

1/ Bigger boot - it gets filled regularly as I have two kiddies under 10
2/ Propper HSV,
3/ Interior. That is just a bad photo as the inserts are alcantara so a brush over now and then keeps them looking nice. I
also find the seats more comfortable in the 5.7 over the 6.0. Bolsters all take a bashing as they are rather large
4/ Rarer, especially in black

Wheels are subjective but the only thing that I would like is a twin exit exhaust. Whatever variant you get I am sure you will be happy with.

No, I looked at the quarter mile times and they're nearly identical for the standard cars! (14.7 @ 100.1mph for the RS @ Shakespeare)

But I don't really want/need to go much faster, I just want an awesome RWD car with a big V8 engine.

Blimey you must buy a lot in one go. My mrs gets a weeks shopping in the back of her Fiat 500. And she regularly spends over £120 on a visit.
