1968 Sylva Fury at pistonheads..potential buyers--read this

lol...no i´m not the seller.
the advert suggests that the date of 1st reg in the v5 is 1968 to attract potential buyers from abroad.
as these people often also visit this web-forum they should be inforemd that they dont get what they expect, especially as a car with a 1995 reg date is not registrateable in most of the other eu-countries...thats all.

If they are dumb enough to believe that any Sylva was manufactured in the 1960's, they deserve to be ripped off for not having done any research.
Besides, exploiting Johnny Foreigner has been a British tradition for centuries. It's part of our culture and ethnicity, therefore criticising it is almost certainly against several EU directives on equality.
So bugger off!

This is probably just an honest mistake. Didn't there used to be a loophole for the SVA if the major components were over a certain age (went through as single donor or something)? I'm sure I've heard of people getting past VED because the engine, gearbox and back axle on their distinclty modern(ish) kit car came from before 1972. That is a couple of years back though...
It may well be that if you go back to the legislation that existed when the current buyer bought the car the date was relevant.

When did SVA come in? Surely this car was registered in the 'bad' old days when points were awarded for components used from the original donor. I bet this Fury is tax exempt because it was built and I do use the word loosely from a mk1 escort or early capri. It was very easy to do and I have two mini based kits which were made tax exempt. It was done legally and above board. Good luck to the seller and all of you foreign buyers remember Caveat emptor.
loosely on this subject, I once saw a logbook years ago on a Jaguar replica which said something like"jaguar sports" on the logbook. Was registered many moons ago ore SVA, but how would you go about insuring something like that when itobviously is a kitcar (think it was a Wildcat??) and they ask what it is???
interesting is that the same seller is offering a Striker which is correcly registered as Striker, incl. a 1978 date of 1st reg as a 1996 car in the headline.

Everybody who has been around kit cars for a few years will know someone who has a car when compared to today appears to be wrongly registered.
The old rules used the points system and the cars were invariably inspected by an admin bod in the local VRO who didn't really know what they were looking at and as long as the numbers matched what it said on the donor logbook nobody was any the wiser.
I know there were some people out there that deliberately didn't bother to register cars properly but generally there were no rules and the vro's made up there own rules depending on what day of the week it was and the phase of the moon they were in. I know it doesn't help now, but when buying an older kit (pre-sva) it is something to be aware of but this thread was started with an inference that the seller of the fury was in some way guilty of trying to pass off something that was not right and to follow that up by quoting another car from the same seller is just wrong. If you want to highlight to people the pitfalls of buying an older kit then by all means write a buyers guide but I would suggest pointing the finger at a particular seller twice in the same week is not the way to make friends or influence people.
Sorry about the rant but having had the finger pointed at me and having had a visit from the DVLA and plod because some ignorant t**t suggested that I was car ringing because one of my mini based kits was tax exempt and used the word mini on the V5.

sorry , i think you got me wrong:
both cars are properly registered from the paperwork side.
what i dont understand that the dealer wants to attract foreign buyers with a car which is not interesting for export (due to the 1995 date of 1st reg) and on the other side he is loosing the chance to bring the focus on another car (advertized as 1996model) which is perfect for being exported as it has a date of 1st treg from 1978.
from the sales price i presume the arent of interst for the UK market either?
