Anyone any experience of them? Particularly MPG and road manners. And if anyone has any idea regarding residuals.

Having both 90xs and svx convertable, very little in performance or mpg, the gearbox in the svx is the best thing though. Ok it also gets more comments!

I had one of the first 07 puma engined defenders which I have now sold and bought a brand new svx station wagon.mpg on both vehicles averages at about 28mpg in mixed use.on road manners are better than previous models, and they seem to have refined things further on the svx-they are still very primative compared to other vehicles but this adds to the character for me.I bought my 07 90 xs for £23k brand new and sold it at 2 years 4 months and 13000 miles for £20k.I am a trader though so these figures may be a little unrealistic as I bought at trade price and sold at retail.

The heater now at least warms the cabin to a decent temperature in cold weather however I find I have to constantly adjust the temperature control as it gets too hot/too cold and never seems to stay at a constant level

That's cheatinghehe

Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to have a test drive and a chat with SWMBO. Realistically though, much as I'd like one, I found my 300Tdi too frustratingly slow on tarmac and I don't think they've progressed that far with the Puma.

I ran a 300tdi for 3 years and the puma is a totally different and more refined vehicle. For instance the puma develops a lot more torque so it feels comparatively quicker, also the new 6 speed box means that the engine isnt revving its nuts off over 60mph and you can actually hold a conversation at motorway speeds. The suspension settings have also been revised to give a more comfortable ride.A guy who does some work for me is a Defender enthusiast and owns a 300tdi and I let him drive mine and he couldnt get over how different it drove from his car.
Best thing to do is have a test drive.

I have a 110 Defender XS TDCI and a 5 series BMW

I now rarley use the 5 and use the Defender for everything

They are excellent on road - no X5 good, but good for long drives. Took mine to Morocco and it was exceptional.
Around London no major problems
suggestion is get one

Wow I can't believe it was that long ago, how are you finding the SVX ? I've yet to actually see one in the flesh.

I took one for a spin once down to Tesco from our warehouse. Got in, closed the door, and then needed to open the window so my elbow had somewhere to go. Little bit tight I thought.
Parked at tesco, popped the handbrake on and promptly trapped my fingers under my knee against the handbrake, and my knee against the dash. Fiddlesticks I thought.
Managed to get myself out eventually, but was a bit uncomfortable. Refused to drive it since wink Of course if they were being given away I'd have one, but I wouldn't part with my own hard earned brass for one. Prefer my Discovery smile
