Quick question re oil usage....

hello everyone
got the Griff back 3 weeks ago after having the head off to replace a pushrod and a couple of valves replaced. Had the other one taken off at the same time to get everything checked as I use it everyday.
Checked my oil today and I have had to put 3 1/2 litres into it.
Up to now it hasnt really used oil.
My question is would you expect that to be the case after that type of work being done to it?

Only if they hadn't filled it up in the first place..... I think you've got a problem if they did.

I would think if you'd lost that much oil, you would either have obvious signs on the driveway or be producing a lot of smoke. Most likely it wasn't filled up properly.

3.1/2 litres

Christ, I was stting a brick having to drive home from Goodwood with the dipstick 'a bit low' after leaving the spare oil in the garage

And I only had to put 1/2 litre in mine when I got home.

3.1/2 litres is more than half your capacity. What sort of numpty makes that kind of mistake?
Does anyone know where (in litres) it starts registering on the dipstick?

Nope no leaking of oil and no signs of it either.
To be fair as I said it went to Le Mans and back and hardly used anything....

If it needed 3.5 litres, that would mean that it would have had only 1.5 litres in the sump surely? It wouldn't have registered on the dipstick and surely the engine wouldn't survive long on such a low amount of oil?

Might be something as stupid as the dipstick tube isnt pushed home in the cylinder head fully and you might have just overfilled it.

Id check that first then think about doing an oil change and see how much is drained from the sump.

I do know they can run very low on oil with no affect until you corner or brake hard and the pickup sucks air..... which is bad!
