Good old BBC give one line to the Euro-sceptic point of view. At the foot of the article.

No doubt the BBC are hoping to become the EBC and havent considered that it may end up being scrapped if the TV licence were to be abolished to bring the UK into line with the parts of the EU that dont have a similar tax smile

No point fighting it guys.

A United States of Europe is inevitable in the next 50-60 years. This is just one of many small steps.

Within a hundred years, the world will be made up of just 4-5 super united nations. Humanity will be better for it.

LOL! Like the Roman Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, The Ottoman Empire, The Spanish Empire, The British Empire, the USSR etc etc. All led to 4-5 super united nations right?

Probably. And a bigger 'fk you' to the dead of WWs I and II could scarcely be imagined. I'm almost surprised that Blair's latest venture to the continent wasn't to visit Tyne Cot and piss on the headstones.

Don't talk daft. One Europe, no wars, no borders, no enemies. I reckon they would have quite liked the idea, what do you think started it (Europe) all off and gave it momentum in the 1st place? They looked at the carnage and said never again. In many ways it's a tribute to them, although I wouldn't presume to project what I might think as what they might think on the subject. So I share your poor form on that score.

Edited to add: These would be the same soldiers that returned from WWII and thanked Winston for his trouble, but then voted in a Labour government by a huge majority and ushered in the welfare state.

And then we'll have lots of small groups of disenfranchised minorities in these super states letting off bombs and screaming for autonomy!

Practically, the USE will not work in the same way USA has. No amount of Eutopian dreaming will change this. However, it won't stop them chucking squillions at this.

Do you really think the Germans will want to continue funding it?
Do you think the PIIGS will want to be strangled by it?

Sadly, you can't just ignore these questions, just like you can't ignore human nature and views based on history. Forgetting things like geographical differences, etc.

It is perhaps even more daft than the USSR idea in principle. I could come back and elaborate why later.

The view that it is necessary, inevitable and beneficial are widely held views by our fellow potato headed citizens buy into. A lot of people think what they are told to.

Almost every country in the EU has a television licence policy, and many of those countries are more expensive than that found in the UK.

That's funny, I'm pretty sure Hitler said he'd have Europe in five years, and it would reign for a thousand years...

Have you read 1984? If not, suggest you do........

Humanity is something we collectively like to name ourselves, Human Nature is what we are. It will end up like Yugoslavia, only a damn sight worse...

I do not like what is happening because i simply do not understand the EU, what does it mean? Who does it represent? Who represents me? What are they doing for me and my country?

Ok - UK Parliament may currently be full of career politicians and deadbeats who do a pretty lousy job, but i understand that i get a vote, the party that has most appointed MP's in an election go to the queen and form a government. Although the basic system needs modernising and refining it does work.

Why the need for a superstate? What will it achieve and why would it be better than separate countries with there own ruling governments.

That is the issue for me, i just do not understand any of it.

The scary thing is the skeptical side in me feels that we do have some very dangerous people obsessed with the place they will form in history and the power they can gain on the way. Do they really care or want to represent the people of a so called EU superstate.

This is why Europe will fail.

It's human nature.

It's no different to 'Communism'; a brilliant idea in theory, but impossible to practise, since human nature will not allow it. There will always be people who want more than others.
