Hello all, whats the best point to jack up the rear of a E38? I use subframe behind the oil pan on the front to lift it up and get axle stands in but I've never been sure about the best position for the jack on the rear. Pictures most welcomed!

If you can see a bar under the diff, part of the diff carrier/cage, not the diff itself, then jack it from there

Not 100% what I'm looking for on the rear diff.

OK, just been looking at pics, and you won't have that bar across the bottom of the cage.

Many other BMWs have the diff in a subframe which has a bar running underneath the diff, and if you jack on that, you lift the chassis nice and easy. If looks like the e38's cage doesn't have a bar under it, so don't jack if on the diff itself.

If you look under, you'll see the diff and the subframe that surrounds it.

If you can get a jack onto part of that frame, you'd be OK, but it looks like it'll be too hard to get onto with the diff inplace.

Thanks for that, I'll investigate.
