Hi, Thinking of building a frogeye with the kit from Tifosi Rana. Have bought a partially restored Midget Mk4 as the base car which I realise won`t make a perfect replica with its wind up windows but it has the 1500cc lump for more smiles! (picking up this wkend) Just wondered if anyone here has built one. Any tips, pitfalls etc would be appreciated. I have built kits before (2 Duttons and a Beauford) but a good few years ago now so I feel like a beginner all over again! My daughter had the idea as a real one was out of her budget and she thought I was bored.

I'm looking for a grotty 70s midget to put the Rana kit on as well, I'll be looking to use it as a daily driver so would be wanting a hard-top, wind up windows and probably a 1600 K-series and type-9 5 speed box.

Something I couldn't fully sus out from the site is the options for a hard top. It says that if you go for a mk1 (frog-eye) windscreen then the standard frog-eye hard top will fit, but would this accomodate wind up windows? If I left the standard windscreen on, would a standard midget hardtop fit?

I'll be very interested in anyone's experience of the kit and company.

DOH! You mean you chose the difficult to tune Triumph 1500 engine over the cheap as chips to tune A Series?

I went for the later mk4 mainly due to cost. The big rubber bumpers make this model less desirable so cheaper. The 1500cc lump is fine as it is in what will be a fairly light car, and I have never been a fan of tuning a small engine when you can have a big one off the shelf!

The 1500 is more powerfull, but it's a bit of a dog compared to the 1275 A series to be honest, harsh and low revving. Still, I'd far rather see an old rubber bumper model chopped up for this kind of conversion than a chrome bumper car.
