There's a few posts in the archives about this but none actually say why it was recalled and what models/years were affected.

Reason I'm asking is that I'm not entirely sure that mine was done or needed and just want to be sure.

Thanks
Andy

Had a good chat about these Saturday with Joolz
Very late 1996 IE Nov / Dec through 1998* were
involved. ( I think 99 was ok? Anyone? )

Either you will have a sticker under the bonnet to
say it has been done, or have a specialist look at
it (they can tell in a blink of an eye ) or call
Blackpool with your chassis number.

If it hasn't been done...and it should by law, get it
done right away...or you may pay dearly.

Cheers Graham

I think mine may need it then as it is a Nov 96 and has no sticker on the VIN plate (may have come off though).

I was just going through some old threads from a long time ago (search for upright recall but it won't put my link in) and it said that there were still about 50 cars out there that hadn't been done. As far as I know it is a required recall and will be done free.

Can anyone confirm all this.

Andy

edited to try and put my link in but failed

Possibly yours may Andy, but do check right now.

Yes it should be done free as it was a M O T recall,
but whether that still applies several years on?
Anyone?

It will be free as it is a safety recall. Your local TVR dealer or the factory can do it. The stiker will not have come off, so I suggest you call TVR pronto. BTW mine is a 99 car and I needed it done. If memory serves me right it is part of the front suspension that is prone to breaking due to rust( or is it poor design?)

Either way get it sorted!

Cheers

Al.

Can't check at the moment, I'm away working till the end of the month hence all the time to go through past threads and see what upgrades I can get done over the next few months!!!!
I don't think the better half would have a clue where to look, or even how to open the bonnet so it will have to wait for now.

Is she driving it while you are away?
If she is - suggest she doesn't until you know for sure!

Are you mad!!!!!

I told about 4 months ago that she could drive it when she could check the fluids on her own and so far she hasn't been able to open the bonnet.

I think I'm pretty safe on that one.

she also thinks it's going to break down every time we get in it despite only having 1 showstopper in 5000 miles

I e-mailed TVR with my chassis number and they checked for me and e-mailed me the answer back.

Reading this made me think that I really ought to confirm once and for all that mine has been done (I have no sticker on the VIN plate)

I've just called the factory to ask - had a call back within 10 minutes to say that according to their records mine was not on the recall list and it was built prior to the recall (i.e. didn't need doing). Mine is a May '97 4.2

Mine is an August 96, so is that pre-recall? If so what was changed from the earlier cars which caused the problem?

Cheers Al.

Cheers Graham, but what is the difference between the early ones and those needing the recall?

Sorry I forgot to mention that.
As I understand it, the original was a solid one
piece upright, while it was repleced by a two piece
unit that proved prone to cracking / breaking.

I would still check with Blackpool or look for the VIN plate sticker. Some of the earlier cars have had uprights replaced (for other reasons) which then had to have them replaced again. This makes saying it is OK from a certain date less than accurate.

Check with Blackpool or a TVR dealer: remember that date of first registration can sometimes have little correlation with build date.
