ETA: Title originally read <£500, but it seems the forum doesn't recognise the "<" character in titles.

Have been looking at a couple of the new Tag Heuers but can't really bring myself to spend £1K plus on a watch that will only be worn at the weekend.

I wear suits during the week so wear a more formal watch, which doesn't really go well with jeans and polo shirts/shirts.

Would like it to be automatic (a stretch given the budget, I know) and probably a leather strap (brown/black). Not bothered about day/date etc, but do tend to prefer roman numerals or just dashes compared to numbers on the face.

Am also drawn to light faces, but am not overly fussed. Also willing to buy second hand if needed.

Thanks for any pointers. smile

One of my aims for next year is to get a new watch and for quite a while now I have been drawn towards getting a STOWA. I have only heard good things about them (including from a few PHers).

Their automatic one is this:

which has numbers, and is close to your budget (depending on exchange rates as you have to buy them from germany)

but they do have a non-automatic with roman numerals but it is more money.

Thanks for the ideas all, I'm not a big fan of the Sinn watches, but I really like the look of the Stowa Marine pictured above, does the manual wind mechanism still tick on the seconds dial, or does it sweep like an auto? confused

Will need the £ to recover a bit before it comes into budget though. frown

As per Joe's recommendation - Pre-owned Damasko DA37 or 36 would be a great choice & no offence intended, will piss all over Breil or CW stuff for quality

bah. Should I have lead with "Chrysler Torqueflite"? Not that it's actually a desirable product...

It sweeps "like an auto" - though its the frequency of the mechanical movement that creates the illusion of sweeping, how it gets its energy (auto vs handwind) has no bearing on this.
