Name change help

Some help for my brother!

When he was born (let say he was named)

Andrew Brian Smith.

That is what went onto his birth certificate.

However all of his life he has used his middle name and that is what everyone calls him, what he has on his certificates from school etc.

For all intents and purposes the first name doesn;t exist for him...except. its on his birth certificate of course, and when he got his drivers licence they put it on that - in that order.

Now whever he goes to get an account or whatnot they make it in the name of Anrew as opposed to Brian.

Obviously the key to all this is getting his drivers licenced changed as he can then use it as his main form of ID to get other thinfs changed (plus for the future).

Question is, will it be difficult getting the DVLA to issue him a name different from 1 that is technically his name on his birth certificate and he ahsn't changed his name by deed poll?

Can't see why your brother needs to get his name changed on anything, everyone he deal with on a daily basis knows him as Brian, not Andrew. Documents for bank accounts or driving licence doesn't really matter for his day to day stuff.

I work with a guy like this, full name Andy James Cook, known by all as James/JC, never uses his first name.

But to answer your question, I'm sure he'd need to change his name legally first

I've changed my name in the last month, and basically it's a well worded letter signed by yourself and a witness. You don't need to use a lawyer or any of that nonsense, and when you use a deed poll service they'll try and tell you you need extra copies blah blah as everywhere won't accept copies. As I'm a tight git I printed myself a few copies on quality paper as they email you a pdf of the paperwork anyway, and had my friend sign them all at the same time. I have new passports, bank cards, everything. It's your legal right if you want to change your name every week, just inform the relevent people with the letter.

Why do people whose surnames start with C get this? JC, DC, EC and so forth.

Seems to happen disproportionately with surnames beginning with C.

I don't get it. Why not stick to Andrew? It's a much better name than Bwian!
